WE 4 YOU
ASTM-SIAS Motorway Operators have undertaken to ensure a good level of grip and evenness of the motorway pavement through maintenance works and periodical survey campaigns monitored by the Independent Supervisory Authority (IVCA/ANAS). Operators also pay good attention in trying to design and implement good safety barriers and more recently also work to mitigate the impacts for bikers. Remember though that bikes are the most dangerous means of transport. Every year, 1,500 bikers loose their lives in Italy, including hundreds of excellent and prudent bikers. A relatively small portion of this appalling figure dies as a result of accidents on the motorway. Motorways are designed to be travelled at relatively high speeds and the impact with asphalt and the other elements of street furniture put the bikers who are not wearing appropriate clothing and protections even more at risk.
When?
Whenever you ride a motorbike.
What?
Wear a helmet and suitable clothing, chosen among approved items only. A bike suit will protect the pilot's body and reduce the effects of the fall, as well as increasing the aerodynamic penetration and giving a greater driving comfort. Use other complementary forms of protection in addition to the suit, i.e., boots and gloves, which in most cases are abundantly enriched by different kinds of protective elements. Always remember to fasten your helmet. There are airbag systems inserted inside coats and technical jackets designed to protect the human body in the event of an accident. This system relies on the same principle as car airbags, improved by a protection surrounding all vital parts of the human body (chest, neck, hips and the spine).
Why?
If you're not adequately protected in the event of a fall or accident, you will be exposed to a strong friction with the asphalt that causes severe abrasions. Besides, you could bang your head and other parts of your body against vehicles or other obstacles you might come across.
