This is why Motorway Operators designed rest areas, service stations, parking areas and emergency bays to be located at predetermined distances. Although the Italian territory is rich in mountains and deep valleys, where this kind of safety feature can be barely provided, we dedicate ourselves and our investments in keeping you safe. In return, you are asked to make use of all the means you are offered. Don't wait until it's too late to pull in a service station and have a rest.
When?
Whenever you drive a car you shouldn't be altered by weariness or other factors.
What?
When you drive, you should be completely awake to prevent drowsiness, a sudden trouble which is seldom announced by precursory signs.
At the first signs of weariness, pull immediately in a service station. Have regular rests of 10/20 min every two hours, even if you feel rested.
Why?
Sleep and weariness are among the most insidious enemies of drivers. It is estimated that they are the cause of 15 to 40% of the most serious accidents, most of the times associated with precise concurrent causes, such as alcohol and drugs use or heavy meals. Moreover, numberless accidents are avoided by a whisker. We feel rather classist in saying this but we want only "quick minded" drivers on our motorways. Help us and choose life.
