ASTM-SIAS Operators provide the users with high-quality, two-carriageway roads with two or three lanes per direction of travel.
Nonetheless, if viewed from above, motorway traffic is sometimes concentrated in the leftside lanes, which would suggest that many users think that rightside lanes were built for somebody else rather than them!Well, not only are overcrowded left lanes odd to be seen, but they actually result in a great misuse of the whole road capacity.
As any misuse, even this one entails actual damages. If users do not exploit road facilities smartly, the road capacity limits will be reached earlier than expected. As a result, drivers will be queuing! And too many queuing phenomena will lead to the need to readjust the roadbed and expand it to three or four lanes, with great economic investments and consumption of land.
When?
Whenever you drive along a motorway.
What?
Try not to have an aggressive or reckless driving. Exploit the road capacity at best, i.e. use all lanes available, and adjust your driving behaviour to the traffic conditions you encounter.
Why?
A smart use of the space available will allow a higher number of vehicles to drive through the road, thereby preventing you from being stuck in traffic jams.
Finally, remember to be watchful on what happens on your rightside. Art. 144 of the new Road Code reads as follows: "Circulation on parallel lanes is admitted in carriageways having at least two lanes per direction of travel when traffic intensity is such that the vehicles crowd any part of carriageway in their direction of travel and their speed is influenced by the vehicles before them". It being understood that overtaking on the right lanes is forbidden, in the event of thick traffic it is common to observe traffic on parallel lines, even on motorways. Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable for a vehicle to travel along its lane on your right at a higher speed than yours.
