WHEN YOU ENTER...BE RESPECTFUL...

AND COMPLIANT WITH PRIORITY RULES

WE 4 YOU
Since the design phase, ASTM-SIAS operators guaranteed an appropriate marking at motorway crossings, with ac- celeration and deceleration lanes. Variable message signs placed at entry points and along the motorway provide drivers with real time information on traffic and safety problems which might have emerged. As you enter a motorway, remember to be extremely ca- reful, comply with speed limits, drive along the whole ac- celeration lane before passing on another one, in order to have the same speed as the other vehicles and, above all, give priority to traffic approaching on your left. Art. 154 of the Road Code states that, when you join traffic flows, you must be careful not to cause danger or hinder, taking into account the position, speed and distance of the ap- proaching vehicles.

When?
Whenever you enter a motorway from a crossing, parking area or service station.
What?
Drive along the whole acceleration lane to reach the speed of other vehicles, use light indicators to show the other drivers your manoeuvre and watch out for approaching vehicles, always giving them priority.
Why?
The entering manoeuvre should be as careful as pos- sible because the risk in motorways is usually linked with speed difference among vehicles. Then, it is obvious that these big differences are particularly huge when joining the traffic flow from outside. Namely, watch out for bikes! Because they have a smaller front section, they are more difficult to identify and might give the wrong distance im- pression. Furthermore, you need to be particularly careful when there are bikers along the road because they have no cabin protection around them. This means that forcing bikers to jam on the brakes, maybe with slippery roadbed, may make them fall with terrible consequences for the bi- kers themselves, any passenger and even for the passen- gers of other approaching vehicles.
